Sierra Health Foundation invests in San Joaquin Valley and My Brother’s Keeper Sacramento

Sierra Health Foundation announced $700,000 in new grants to the San Joaquin Valley Health Fund and My Brother’s Keeper Sacramento collaborative. The Foundation seeded both programs through its nonprofit partner, The Center, to improve health in the San Joaquin Valley and among boys and men of color. The full amount will be regranted to community-based nonprofits through a collaborative investment strategy.

Chet serves as President and CEO of Sierra Health Foundation and CEO of The Center. Each year, the publication honors outstanding chief executives in the Sacramento metropolitan area leading for-profit and nonprofit organizations.

This year, the Sierra Health Foundation and The Center are focused on ensuring that community-based nonprofits and underserved communities have the assistance they need to participate in and benefit from recovery-focused initiatives. We are honored to take up this charge.

One month into 2023 and it’s clear that public investments are shifting from responding to the COVID-19 pandemic to recovering from it. The shift will happen simultaneously at the local, state and national levels. The impending funding reductions across a broad array of public services will significantly impact the health and well-being of communities across California.

Chet P. Hewitt Statement on Tyre Nichols

January 30, 2023

Chet P. Hewitt, president and CEO of Sierra Health Foundation and CEO of The Center, issued this statement after viewing the Memphis Police Department’s body camera footage that showed the deadly actions that took the life of Sacramento native Tyre Nichols:

“Tyre Nichols was a son of Sacramento. I’m sad and angry at the callous indifference I saw in the video of his murder. Still, I know that my grief pales in comparison to what his mother and family feel.

Our Safety and Wellness are Inextricably Linked

There have been three mass shootings in three days in California. We grieve with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community of Monterey Park and the families whose loved ones were murdered or injured celebrating the Lunar New Year. Our hearts are with the farmworkers in Half Moon Bay who lost neighbors. Our condolences are with the many injured in Oakland and the family of the young man who died. Continue reading...

Sierra Health Foundation joins California funders to support Guaranteed Income Pooled Fund

December 16, 2022

Governor Gavin Newsom announced the launch of the Guaranteed Income Pooled Fund, a philanthropic endeavor to help organizations fund their Guaranteed Income Pilot Programs by helping pilot projects unlock more than $25 million in grants from the state. The Pooled Fund will support select state-funded guaranteed income pilot projects in need of additional resources to launch, sustain or enhance their pilot. Read the full announcement at Gov.Ca.Gov.

Sierra Health Foundation invests $1 million in Community Resilience in California

Today, Sierra Health Foundation announced its investment of $1 million across 13 California organizations. The awards span the Foundation’s core priority areas: Children, Youth and Families; Economic Stability and Opportunity; Land, Water and Climate Equity; and Policy and Systems Change.
