In response to harmful federal policy actions, we are working with national, statewide and local partners to strengthen and unite the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors to advance the health and wellbeing of all Californians.
Defend and Advance
The Defend and Advance Fund is a program aligned with Sierra Health Foundation’s “grasstops” strategy, investing in collaboration with our national and statewide networks to advance the charitable sector, amplify rapid response efforts and mutual aid, support communication and narrative campaigns and engage with aligned coalitions for collective action. Funding supports policy and systems change efforts at federal, state and local levels and coordinates community mobilization and storytelling.
Got Power
The first round of the Got Power Initiative was established in 2017 to support grassroots organizations on the front lines of protecting communities threatened by the repeal of government safety nets. Got Power 2.0 launched in late-2024 with an added focus on farm workers and farmworking communities. The Fund strengthens nonprofit capacity, addresses the needs of vulnerable populations, preserves and protects access to public benefits and mobilizes civil society. Funding to grantee partners supports physical and cyber security, safety net enrollment and education, know-your-rights and advocacy trainings and more. This $2.5 million collective impact fund is managed by The Center and funded by Sierra Health Foundation, Blue Shield of California Foundation, Stuart Foundation, The California Endowment and Waverly Street Foundation.

Central California Immigrant Resilience Fund
The Central California Immigrant Resilience Fund is a pooled fund initiative working at the grassroots level to support immigrants and immigrant-serving organizations across California’s Central Valley and Central Coast. Funded partners provide wraparound support for families, safety net infrastructure, immigration legal services and investment in legal advocate training programs, rapid response systems, advocacy trainings, community organizing and local storytelling. This fund is managed by The Center with implementation support from California Immigrant Policy Center and funded by Sierra Health Foundation, 11th Hour Project, California Wellness Foundation, JB McClatchy Foundation, Kresge Foundation, The California Endowment and The James Irvine Foundation.
