Health Leadership Program Class IX Projects
Each year, Health Leadership Program class members select team project topics and form project teams to use their lessons in leadership to make positive impacts in their communities. Following are the Class IX team projects:
Critical Friends
This project will result in a site-visit model to improve sustained connections among members of HLP Class IX and HLP alumni.
Team members: Barbara Clifford, Cibonay Cordova, Andrew Frishman and Lee Kimball. Team liaison: Leslie Reece.
Healthy Balance 3
This program focuses on an entirely holistic approach to changing people's lifestyles through nutrition/body, mind and spiritual health.
Team members: Sher Barber and Katy Robb. Team liaison: Juan Prieto.
LifeSTEPS
The team will assess and evaluate this community-based after-school program to assist in creating sustainability.
Team members: Nansea Arquette, Monica Biley, Shane Brock and Bruno Marchesi. Team liaisons: Matt Cervantes and Niti Gupta.
Placement Disruption
The team will identify best practices for out-of-home child placements and create a model for placement stability and timely family reunification.
Team members: Francine DiCiano, Jeff Henderson, Marta McKenzie, Wendy Petko and Kara Yegge. Team liaison: Marsha Lewis-Akyeem.
Sacramento Food Collaborative
Joining this project currently in progress, the group is committed to building a regional coalition to promote policies that improve healthy food access and food security in underserved communities.
Team members: Adela Gonzalez del Valle, Cathy LeBlanc and Liz Pazdral. Team liaison: Galen El-Askari.
Study on Health Care Support Services for Mercy Housing California's 7th and H Streets Affordable Housing Project
This project will support a Sacramento nonprofit by providing data to determine how best to meet health care needs of residents at a new supportive housing facility.
Team members: Kathy Chao, Marshall Graves and Kunal Merchant. Team liaison: David Husid.
Youth Policy and Advocacy
This group will convene young people to provide a space for sharing and learning about policy and advocacy for and by young people.
Team members: Koua Jacklyn Franz, Homero Meija and Sammy Nunez. Team liaison: Sergio Cuellar.
Class IX project teams are receiving coaching from Beth Conley from The Kiely Group and Adele James of Adele James Consulting.
