Responsive Grants Program
We will announce funding opportunities in early 2010.
We began the Responsive Grants Program in 2008 with a goal to promote health and well-being in Northern California communities by asking nonprofit organizations and agencies to tell us what their community needs and concerns are, and how a grant from Sierra Health Foundation can help address them. In the first funding round, we awarded $1.2 million for 31 projects serving 23 counties, with 35 percent awarded for projects serving rural areas of our 26-county funding region.

2009 Funding
In response to the economic downturn and resulting demand for basic human needs, such as food, clothing, shelter and associated physical and mental health care, in 2009 we committed $1 million for emergency safety-net services. Qualifying nonprofit organizations and public agencies that provide these services and need assistance were invited to apply for up to $25,000 by Jan. 15. In late-February, we awarded grants totaling $1 million to 42 nonprofit organizations and public agencies in Northern California. These funded programs serve residents in 23 counties of Sierra Health’s 26-county funding region.

This was the only Responsive Grants Program funding round in 2009.
Use the map below and the OSHPD Web site to determine if your area is designated as rural. For purposes of this grant, rural and frontier designations are combined into one rural designation. If you need assistance to determine if the area your organization serves is rural, please send an e-mail to grants@sierrahealth.org.
